Why is breastfeeding important?

Breastfeeding benefits mums by promoting faster recovery from birth, reduced breast and ovarian cancer risk in later life, and improved mother-infant bonding. For baby, breastfeeding protects against chest, ear and urine infections, diabetes, eczema and asthma. Evidence also suggests breastfed babies are better protected from SIDS, heart disease, and coeliac disease. [3]

How long should I breastfeed for?

Australian breastfeeding guidelines recommend exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, then continued breastfeeding combined with solid foods for 1 year and beyond, if both mum and baby wish. In Australia, 90% of new mums initiate exclusive breastfeeding, but only around 15% continue until 5 months.[4] Kin’s Breastfeeding Essentials are designed to tackle the common breastfeeding problems that contribute to this drop-off.

How do I know when to call my doctor?

It’s normal to experience some breast pain and nipple discomfort while breastfeeding, and it’s a good idea to ask your doctor or midwife about what you can expect. Instructions for use: Apply a small amount of cream with dry, clean hands. Apply directly to the nipples as often as required. Suitable for breastfeeding mums without needing to wash the cream off.
